Abhishek Basak is a distinguished freelance photographer, mentor, and photojournalist specializing in travel, people, and documentary photography. Based in India, he has been passionately capturing compelling stories through his lens for over seven years. With a deep commitment to visual storytelling, his work reflects a keen eye for detail, emotion, and cultural narratives.
A highly respected mentor, Abhishek has shared his expertise as a photography teacher at a reputed school in Kolkata and continues to guide aspiring photographers in various aspects, including post-processing. Over 200 students across India have learned and mastered the art under his guidance.
As a co-mentor for AH Photography Expedition, he organizes photography tours and workshops, fostering talent and inspiring new perspectives. His contributions to the field have earned him the prestigious distinctions of MFIP (Master of FIP ), EFIAP (Excellence FIAP), A.APS (Bangladesh),E.NPS (Cyprus). He has mentored two National Geographic photographers from Poland and has served as a judge in numerous national and international photography competitions.
Abhishek’s work has gained global recognition, with his photographs exhibited in over 130 countries. His artistic excellence has been acknowledged with the Best Photographer Award more than 70 times in international competitions across France, Luxembourg, Serbia, Bulgaria, Belgium, Ukraine, South Africa, Slovenia, and Italy, among others. In India, he has received this honor over 100 times, amassing more than 3,000 awards across national and international contests. His remarkable achievements include being a finalist in the prestigious HIPA competition in both 2018 and 2023. He also made history as the first Indian to win the One Eyeland Photography Award in 2024 and has been recognized in major contests such as 35 Awards, Agora Photography Competition, Black & White Photo Award, World Photography Club Competition, and the India Photography Summit 2024. He was also the first Indian to win an award at the Taichung Photo Award and secured an honorable mention at the KAFF International Contest. Additionally, he was a finalist in esteemed competitions such as the SIENA International Photo Awards, Urban Photo Awards, and the Vanguard Photo Contest. In 2022, he achieved 2nd place nationally in the prestigious EISA International Photography Competition.
His work has been widely published in renowned global and national platforms, including National Geographic, Getty Reportage, The Guardian, Chiiz, Asian Photography Magazine, Smart Photography Magazine, Travellers’ World, and Viewfinder. His photographs have also been featured in leading Indian media outlets such as Anandabazar, Ei Samay, Bartaman, Anandabahar, Uttarbanga Sangbad, and Outlook Traveller.
